The joint stock company Vodárny a kanalizace Karlovy Vary (Vodakva) was established by privatizing the former state company on 1 January 1994. However, its history dates back to 1882, when the first municipal water and waste water company of Karlovy Vary was formed.
Since 1994 Vodakva has considerably expanded its activities in the region. Nowadays, on a contractual base, the company operates, maintains, renews and develops the facilities for drinking water supply, sewerage and waste water treatment for nearly 100 municipalities in the Regions of Karlovy Vary, Pilsen, Ústí nad Labem and Central Bohemia, mostly members of the Water Management Association of West Bohemia. This Association was established in 1993 to carry out the water assets running and upgrading, the number of its members has more than doubled since then. The Association is based on the municipalities‘ solidarity; the members approve water and waste water tariffs and the investment plans carried out by Vodakva.
Besides this main activity, Vodakva offers its customers other services such as water and waste water utilities design and construction, laboratory water analysis, pipeline inspection and reconstruction etc.
The principal shareholders are the Water Management Association of West Bohemia Region and the French company SUEZ, an international expert in water and waste management. Both shareholders participate in the company management.
The company has 563 employees, it operates 1,535 km of water supply networks, 726 km of sewerage networks and it supplies 188 thousand inhabitants with drinking water. The total volume of delivered water is 9 million m3 and the company’s turnover reaches nearly 780 million Czech Crowns.
In 2008 Vodakva gained the ISO certificates according to ČSN EN ISO 9001:2001, ČSN EN ISO 14001:2005 and OHSAS 18001:1999 for all provided services.
